The Boone family dates back to the time of the Norman Conquests
in the tenth century and the name is from Norman (Normandy) origin. The Boone’s of North Carolina, Tennessee & Kentucky
are probably of Scottish descent. The name "Boone" is anglicized from the French word bon, meaning either "good"
or is a place name meaning one from Bohun in the Northwest corner of France. The French do not pronounce the letter "H" in a name, making
the name de Bohun, sounding like de Bown, or Bohn sound like Bown. The surname Boone was originally de Bohun (from Normandy)
changed to Bohun, 1109-1361; changed to Bohn, 1301-1589; and lastly anglicized to Boone around 1544 either
in England or Wales, to the Present date.

Boone Historical Facts
The family dates back to a Norman-English family of nobility
called de Bohun, more than likely originating from the Norman settlement of the same name. The de Bohun family arrived
in England along with William the Conqueror, fighting alongside him at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The earliest record of a de Bohun can be found in the Norfolk
section of the Domesday Book, where Humphrey de Bohun was recorded as owning land. Over the next three centuries they grew
to become one of the most powerful English dynasties of the middle ages. The de Bohun family appears to have gathered power
during the mid 12th century. Throughout the 13th and 14th centuries, various members of the family claimed Earldoms of many
English counties including Herefordshire, Northhamptonshire and Essex, plus minor
seats in Midhurst and Brecon. The most powerful dynasty of all lasted 174 years from 1200 until 1373. They were known as the
Earls of Hereford, and the Constables of all England. At the battle of Falkirk, Robert the Bruce apparently
fought and killed Humphrey de Bohun. At one time, the Earl of Hereford was the third most powerful man in England, carrying the banners of 17 knights to the Siege of Caerlaverock in July 1300,
this compared to King Edward's 33 and 23 for the King's son. The de Bohun’s coat of arms was an azure blue shield with
a thick diagonal white or silver band and six rampant gold lions, three in each half of the blue. The Bohun or Boone line
connects to Alfred the Great and also to Charlemagne.
The Domesday
Book
Possibly the single most important genealogy book that has ever been recorded for early history purposes,
even comparing it to the importance of The Holy Bible, the Domesday Book was commissioned in December 1085 by William the
Conqueror, who invaded England in 1066. The first draft was completed in August 1086 and contained records for 13,418 settlements
in the English counties south of the rivers Ribble and Tees (the border with Scotland at the time). The Domesday Book has
survived nearly 1,000 years of English history and is currently housed at London's Public Record Office in Kew, London.

The 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was a
direct descendent of Squire’s brother, James Boone. James Boone married Mary Faulke and had a daughter named Anne Boone
who married Abraham Lincoln Sr., the grandfather of the president. (Abe SR’s sister, Sarah Lincoln, who was born in
1723, also married a Boone, William Boone, a Quaker from New
Jersey). Anne Boone and Abe Lincoln Sr. had a son Thomas
Lincoln who married Nancy Hanks and lived in Kentucky and Illinois. Their son was President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865).

64 generations of European royalty, paved the roads to the new lands in America. Counties and towns in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and many other states still bear his name today. Many of his descendants still live in the
areas of Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri and North
Carolina.
